Why you should invest in YOU!
Jun 25, 2022Don’t we all want to be the very best version of who we CAN possibly be?
I would say: YES, of course! We all want to feel fulfilled, may it be to have a job we enjoy or having a thriving business; finding ourselves in a loving relationship or being part of a caring circle of likeminded people; or perhaps you would like to be in a position to give back to society. We are all looking to BELONG. But, in order to land in the spot that is just right for you, it is very important to learn about what works for you and what doesn't. After all, everyone is beautiful and unique and thus must find the shoe that fits them.
A wise lady once told me: ‘The best investment you will ever make is in yourself’. At the time I didn’t quite understand what she meant exactly, but looking back, it all makes sense. Most people when hearing the word ‘invest’ shy away from this idea as it makes them think about money and that is true to one extent. However, money is just a commodity or token required as an exchange for INFORMATION. Once the transaction has been made, it is entirely up to you to take action with that newly obtained information. The process starts with learning how this information can work for you, when to apply it to your life and by figuring out which areas should be worked on first.
A second factor is TIME. Just as with an investment, you cannot expect instant returns. Some research is most definitely required prior to pushing the start-button of your personal development journey, but once you put the wheels in motion, you can start designing the picture of what you want your life to look like. Just as in mathematics one layer of experience will build on the other and only by compounding these over time YOU, as a person, can develop and grow into a knowledgeable individual who will know how to respond appropriately to all kinds of different situations and life challenges. And… if you feel like it, you could in turn teach others to do the same.
Many of my students and clients have asked me: ‘Sounds interesting, but where and how do I start this investment in myself?’ The good new is that there are so many different avenues to learn and we have a variety of recourses just at our fingertips.
Firstly, have a look at who your role models are. Who are the people that have accomplished what you want to do? How have they done it? How much time did it take them to get there? What can you learn form looking at their journey? Once you have a focus point or vision about where you want to take it, you can start investing. An investment doesn’t have to cost a lot. You can start with free information available through podcasts, blogs and articles. Have a notebook handy and jot down some interesting concepts covered. As your curiosity grows, you will want to explore certain things in more depth and you will discover some thought-provoking books along the way. If you don't enjoy reading, get a subscription to Audible, an excellent tool that brings the info to you through your headphones. By investing time and undertaking the above-mentioned steps you will prepare your mind – yes, you will be doing the groundwork.
However, the most important step is yet to be taken, this is the step of taking ACTION with the information. To speed up the process, you can join a group of individuals who have the same aim and interests as you do, and by being in their proximity, the next steps will unveil. Don’t forget that we become the sum of the five people we spend the most time with. Moreover, you can take a course to learn the ropes of manifestation, or the fastest way to propel yourself forward is by investing in a coach who has invested in him or herself in order to help others. Your coach will be your guide and accountability partner on your quest. Together you will develop strategies that work for you. Once you grasp how to apply these, your coach will put you on your path. You will now be able to go solo and apply this blueprint to any area of your life.
All I can say is: Learn as many things as you possibly can and new opportunities will start rolling in. With ‘learning’ I mean, take an interest in a variety of things and learn to listen to others. Sometimes this includes things or people you would not usually be that interested in. ‘Give it a go!’ because you don't know what you don't know and how can you love something you have never heard of or you have never given a chance. Invest in yourself, and I promise you, you will ask yourself: ‘Why did I not embark on this compelling journey earlier?’
